The Colony Bees Association is pleased to announce our membership of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and the IUCN Australian Committee. The admission was confirmed during the 117th meeting of the IUCN Council held in April 2026 in Gland.

With 1,600 Members globally, the IUCN is the world’s largest global environmental network.

Oceania

The Oceania region encompasses a diverse range of ecosystems, including coral reefs, mangroves, forests, wetlands, and deserts. The region is also home to a number of migratory animals, including fish, birds and insects. These animals navigate the region to feed, reproduce and nest.

Today, local communities maintain a deep connection to the land, sky, and sea. These practices are woven into daily life to teach stewardship and culture. These knowledge systems are now guiding policy and strengthening solidarity.

Our Mission

The Colony Bees Association is proud to advocate for wild migratory honeybees and their pollination service to native plants of the Oceania.

We remain committed to advancing the knowledge Apiculture, its medicinal applications and traditions of honey hunting for the preservation of cultural heritage.

Partnership with IUCN Oceania

We are pleased that our vision and work closely aligns with IUCN’s mission of conserving nature and ensuring that the use of natural resources is equitable and sustainable.

Working alongside the IUCN Oceania Regional Office, this partnership strengthens our capacity to deliver on our mission to Pollinate Country.

Honeybee Conservation with IUCN

During the IUCN World Conservation Congress held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on 11 October 2025, the IUCN released an update to its Red List to include the wild population of the Western Honey Bee.

This offers a great opportunity to align the conservation of Oceanic Honeybees with this these global objectives.
