Open Air, Bundjalung

Location: Bundjalung, Byron Bay Shire, NSW, Australia 

Date sighted: June 25th, 9.00 

Nest type: Openair

Description: Large comb structure, open air nesting attached to banksia tree, located within natural bushland, close to tea tree water source. 

Bee body shape is consistent with apis species, though further research would be required to identify apis species. Open air nesting behaviour suggests Apis.cerana characteristics. 

Wing venation - further research required 

Temperament - calm, high foraging activity, strong defence capacity and good comb structure. 

Swarming - Observed since November 1, 2025.
