Community Bee Sanctuary, Newrybar, Australia

 

On Bundjalung, 

27t, November 2022, marked the inauguration of the Northern Rivers' first Community Bee Sanctuary. 

Located at 13–15 Old Pacific Highway in Newrybar, NSW, the sanctuary serves as a vibrant hub for community events and initiatives.

The Bee Sanctuary acts as a protected habitat and research space to support the conservation, health, and sustainability of native bee populations.

The Sanctuary includes natural nests such as a Top Bar Kenyan Hive, as well as a Sun Hive and also a Log Hive for native stingless bee Tetragonula Carbonaria. 

The Sanctuary is protected areas established to restore native plant species and natural habitat that are crucial for bees and pollinators. They also provide environments to support research on bee genetics, resistance through observation of resilient bee populations.
